Meeting at the RA NA Standing Committee on European Integration

On March 12 the Chair of the RA National Assembly Standing Committee on European Integration Naira Zohrabyan met with the Head of the Northern and Eastern Europe Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Czech Republic Eliška Žigová . The Charges d’Affaires of the Czech Republic to the RA Petr Mikyska and the Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador of the Czech Republic Ivan Jestřáb were also attending the meeting.

In the course of the meeting Naira Zohrabyan expressed her indignation in connection with the adopted resolution on Khojalu by the Committee on Froeign Relations of the Chamber of Deputies of the Parliament of the Czech Republic on February 7. “I am sorry that the MPs of the Czech Parliament, who have for this absurdity, have simply fallen under the influence of the Turkish-Azerbaijani oil dollar and caviar campaign”, said the Chair of the NA Standing Committee on European Integration. Naira Zohrabyan advised in cases concerning Khojalu at least consult with the Czech journalist Dana Mazalova, who can provide objective information about the real organizers and those who are responsible for what happened.

According to the Chair of the NA Standing Committee, it is understandable that the 25% of the oil being imported to the Czech Republic from Azerbaijan, and the Czech Republic has certain energy interests connected with Azerbaijan. Nevertheless, In Naira Zohrabyan’s word, “if we want to have in reality European family, then we should not directly let to be adopted such disgraceful resolutions in the Parliament of the European Union member country”.

During the meeting the sides also touched upon Armenia-EU Association Agreement. Naira Zohrabyan has noted that it is very important that the attitude of the European Union towards South Caucasian countries will not be as one unit, but the progress of every country be assessed separately. With this respect, he has highlighted the Eastern Partnership Summit to be held in Vilnius in autumn, noting that considerable progress has been recorded in the negotiations of the Association Agreement, however as Chair of the NA Standing Committee on European Integration it is very important for her that the European Union has positive impact on the consistent implementation of reforms in Armenia.

The sides also referred to the elections of Yerevan Elders scheduled on May 5, discussed issues concerning the inner-political situation in Armenia.
