Parliamentary Delegation of the Czech Republic Visits Tsitsernakaberd

On April 19 the delegation headed by the Chairman of the Standing Committee for European Affairs of the Chamber of Deputies of the Parliament of the Czech Republic Jan Bauer visited Tsitsernakaberd Memorial Complex.

The Czech parliamentarians laid a wreath and flowers at the Memorial of the 1915 Armenian Genocide, and honored with a minute of silence the memory of the massacred one and a half million innocent victims.

Jan Bauer and the members of the delegation have been to the Armenian Genocide Museum-Institute and got acquainted with the documents ensuring the Armenian Genocide, watched with interest the exhibition items.

In the Commemoration Book Jan Bauer left a note: “Thank you that I could be in this museum. It’s sad and tragic. I am very sad that you had such a tragic past.”

T he Chairman of the Standing Committee for European Affairs of the Chamber of Deputies of the Parliament of the Czech Republic answered the journalists’ questions.

Noting that he had been in Armenia for the first time, he said: “What we witness here is rather exciting.”

In response to the question what should be done for preventing genocides, Jan Bauer noted: “The Czech Republic is a member country of the European Union, and we are engaged with that issue. We should learn lessons not to repeat such cases.”
