RA NA President Hovik Abrahamyan Meets with the Representatives of the NGOs Dealing with the Problems of Persons with Disabilities

On October 4 the RA NA President Hovik Abrahamyan met with the heads and the representatives of the NGOs dealing with the problems of persons with disabilities. The Chairman of the NA Standing Committee on Social Affairs Hakob Hakobyan, and the member Hovhannes Sahakyan were present at the meeting.

On the initiative of the Head of the parliament during the working meeting problems relating to the persons with disabilities were discussed.

Hovik Abrahamyan attentively listened to the participants’ opinion about the provisions of the draft law on the persons with disabilities under the elaboration phase, as well as the issues raised by them. The NA President noted that all the issues and problems concerning the persons with disabilities were always at the centre of attention of the state, and their solutions through legislation should be settled. In his word, the parliament should become a platform of debate for the problems and issues of the persons with disabilities.

The Chairman of the NA Standing Committee on Social Affairs Hakob Hakobyan informed the attendees that the draft law was at the phase of debate, some provisions were under specification.

Those present raised the issue pertaining to building steep platforms, using the transport, installing of voice street lights. There was a proposal to specify the provision on the universal design in the draft. It was noted that the use of the principle of universal design would make accessible the buildings, transport means, the areas of historical-cultural places for the persons with disabilities.

By Hovik Abrahamyan’s proposal a working group was set up comprised of five people, who will take part in all the debates of the draft law on the persons with disabilities in the NA Standing Committee on Social Affairs.

“I am ready to support you in every issue,” the NA President said and added that the cooperation would give opportunity to overcome the problems.

At the end of the meeting the attendees thanked the NA President for the initiative and assisting the persons with disabilities and hearing the problems.
