1 / 8

On October 30 the closed meeting of the Standing Committee on Defense and Security of the Collective Security Treaty Organization Parliamentary Assembly (CSTO PA) was held in the National Assembly.

After the end of the meeting the Chairman of the Committee Anatoly Viborny and the member of the Delegation of the National Assembly to CSTO PA, the member of the NA deputy Khosrov Harutyunyan had a press conference.

Anatoly Viborny said that about 10 items had been discussed, which mainly were relating to the military-political situation of the Caucasus Region and complying the problems with the legislations of the member states, saying that the CSTO PA had adopted 144 legal acts, from which 12 during the last two years.

Khosrov Harutyunyan noted that in the context of the regional security the Armenian deputies had voiced the threats of Armenia’s national security, particularly, the arms race, the bellicose announcements, borderline incidents because of tragic consequences of Azerbaijan, numerous issues regarding the blockade of our country by Turkey, and the problem of events aimed at preventing the military threats. The Committee is going to submit a certificate on those facts to the CSTO PA Plenary Meeting and discuss them within the framework of the CSTO obligations. Anatoly Viborny and Khosrov Harutyunyan also answered the journalists’ questions, which were mainly relating to the guarantees of the CSTO in Armenia’s security and the fact of selling weapon to Azerbaijan by Russia and Azerbaijan, which is a threat to Armenia.

Anatoly Viborny noted that Russia had taken that step in accordance with the international contractual provisions, and it also does not contradict the CSTO Statute. According to the Chairman of the Committee, that issue had been discussed at the meeting and it was decided to find a legal solution that does not contradict the interests of the CSTO member country.
