RA NA President Hovik Abrahamyan Receives the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Kingdom of the Netherlands to the RA Hans Horbach

On March 6 the RA NA President Hovik Abrahamyan received Hans Horbach, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Kingdom of the Netherlands to the RA.

Mr Abrahamyan congratulated Hans Horbach on the occasion of being appointed Ambassador and expressed confidence that his work would contribute to the development and strengthening of the Armenian-Dutch friendly relations. The NA President has opined that there is a big potential for the development of relations in different spheres. To his conviction, it is necessary to activate the inter-parliamentary cooperation, which will also promote the development of the inter-state relations. Hovik Abrahamyan positively assessed the cooperation of the two countries within the framework of the international organizations. He has welcomed the policy pursued by the Netherlands on the NK problem – it is for the EU common position, supporting the peaceful settlement of the issue aimed at the efforts of the OSCE Minsk Group. “In 2015 is the 100th anniversary of the Armenian Genocide. I thank the people of the Netherlands and the House of the Representatives for recognizing the Armenian genocide and condemning it in 2004, which we observe as an important step in the internalization of the recognition of the Armenian Genocide, as well as the prevention of similar crimes,” Hovik Abrahamyan said. The President highly assessed the technical and financial support of the Netherlands in the spheres of energy, agriculture, ecology of Armenia, as well as in the development of small and medium entrepreneurship.

Thanking for the reception, the Ambassador Hans Horbach also highlighted the development of multilateral and multilateral cooperation between Armenia and the Netherlands and underlined that his country was concerned about continuing developing bilateral and multilateral relations with Armenia. He also deemed important the cooperation of the parliaments of the two countries, in this context highly assessing the role of the parliamentary diplomacy in the inter-state relations.

In the course of the meeting the interlocutors discussed the regional problems, issues regarding Armenia’s joining the Customs Union, the NK conflict, and touched upon other issues of bilateral interest.
