At the Sitting of the NA Standing Committee on Protection of Human Rights and Public Affairs

On April 18 the sitting of the NA Standing Committee on Protection of Human Rights and Public Affairs moderated by the Committee Chair Elinar Vardanyan was held.

The Committee debated and accepted as information the annual report “On the Activities of the Human Rights Defender During 2013 and Violation of Human Rights and Fundamental Freedoms in the Country.” The RA Human Rights Defender Karen Andreasyan presented the shortcomings and problems, the recorded positive steps regarding the protection of human rights in the spheres of justice, education, science, culture, nature protection, energy, prosecutor’s office and social security and in a number of other spheres and introduced recommendations. He thanked the NA Standing Committee for joint work, as a result of which a number of problems of the sphere were solved.

The Committee Chair in her co-report noted that the Staff of the Human Rights Defender prepared an inclusive report presenting the shortcomings of the sphere.

The Committee debated the draft law “On Amending the RA Law on the NGOs” authored by Artak Davtyan.

The RA Deputy Justice Minister Grigor Muradyan noted that the government had no objections of principle.

The bill was included with endorsement in the agenda of the NA upcoming four-day sittings.

By the authors’ proposal the Committee postponed by one year the debate of the bill “On Amending the RA Law on Parties.”
