On January 27 the Speaker of the National Assembly Galust Sahakyan received the delegation led by the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Islamic Republic of Iran (IRI) Mohammad Javad Zarif. Welcoming the guests in the parliament, Galust Sahakyan expressed hope that during his visit the Minister not only would have an opportunity to discuss a wide scope of issues with the officials, but also to get acquainted with historical-cultural heritage, national customs of our country. Touching upon the Armenian-Iranian relations he highlighted the development of mutually beneficial cooperation in all spheres. In terms of economic cooperation the Head of the parliament referred to the bilateral projects, particularly, the implementation of Meghri hydro-electric power plant and Armenia-Iran third power line projects. The Speaker of the National Assembly also emphasized the expansion and deepening of the cooperation between the marzes of Armenia and states of Iran.

Galust Sahakyan expressed his gratitude for the works being done in preservation of the Armenian historical-cultural heritage in the territory of Iran. In the NA Speaker’s word, the warm attitude of the IRI authorities shown towards the Armenian community of Iran had always been highly appreciated in Armenia. Touching upon the existing political dialogue between the two countries Galust Sahakyan spotlighted the role of the parliamentary diplomacy in that issue. Talking about the regional latest developments the Speaker of the National Assembly highly assessed the balanced position of the Islamic Republic of Iran in the settlement of the Nagorno Karabakh problem.

Galust Sahakyan expressed hope that the IRI high-ranking delegation will also take part in the events of the remembrance of the Armenian Genocide victims in April 2015.

Thanking for the warm reception the Foreign Minister of the Islamic Republic of Iran Mohammad Javad Zarif highly appreciated the role of the Speaker of the National Assembly in the development of the Armenian-Iranian relations. The Minister has noted that one of the priorities of the Iranian Government is developing and deepening of the relations with Armenia.

Mohammad Javad Zarif emphasized the cooperation of the parliamentary delegations of the two countries in different international structures. He also noted that regarding the regional problems the position of Iran had not been changed: the conflicts should not be solved through peaceful negotiations. The Foreign Minister of Iran expressed hope that in 2015 the mutual visits will continue promoting the friendship of the two peoples and deepening of cooperation.
