On March 24 the National Assembly hosted the delegation of the “Memory Relay” campaign being held in the CIS Inter-parliamentary Assembly. The participants, veterans of the Great Patriotic War and the deputies of the parliaments of Russia, Belarus, Kyrgyzstan and Kazakhstan were in the delegation.
Armenia is the fourth country hosting the relay campaign. The series of events launched in Minsk, capital of Belarus. The delegation should take the particles of inextinguishable fires from the CIS member countries to St Petersburg, and on April 16 should bring them together during the event held in Tavrichesky Palace. Welcoming the guests in the National Assembly, the Chairman of the RA NA Standing Committee on Science, Education, Culture, Youth and Sport Artak Davtyan, has noted that about six hundred thousand Armenians took part in the Great Patriotic War. And everybody remembers with pride the victorious end of that war, as the Armenian people has been represented at the highest level in the Soviet Army. The Armenian sons’ feats devoted their life to the Motherland and victory is undeniable. Artak Davtyan documented that the importance of the victory would be highlighted not only seventy but also after seven hundred years.
The Head of the Delegation Tamara Dolgoshey in his speech has noted that the victory has united and unites nations, states and generations during the Patriotic War. The general history of those nations is rich in heroes and deeds. The goal of the “Memory Relay” campaign is to bring up a generation deserving the heroes, to be grateful to the veterans for their devotion and for the victory against fascism.
Then the participants of the event watched the video messages of the RA NA President Galust Sahakyan and the Chair of the IPA CIS Council Valentina Matvienko addressed to the participants of the “Memory Relay”campaign. At the end of the meeting Artak Davtyan and Tamara Dolgoshey met with the journalists.
On the same day, in the evening the members of the Armenian Delegation of the “Memory Relay” campaign had been at the Armenian Genocide Memorial Complex, laid a wreath and paid tribute to the memory of the innocent victims.
