On April 2 the President of the Republic of Cyprus Nikos Anastasiades received the delegation led by the RA National Assembly Speaker Galust Sahakyan.
In his remarks Galust Sahakyan has highlighted the boosting of cooperation between the two countries in the cultural and scientific-educational spheres. The Head of the Parliament has noted that the Republic of Armenia has noted that the Republic of Armenia attaches special importance to the development of the economic ties, underlining that the indices existing in the trade-economic sphere do not reflect the real potential of the Armenian-Cypriot cooperation. In this respect Galust Sahakyan has greatly emphasized the fulfillment of the new initiatives in the given sphere. As perspective and beneficial spheres of cooperation he has distinguished the tourism and banking spheres.
“We are concerned about deepening the cooperation in the mentioned spheres. Armenia’s accession to the Eurasian Economic Union gives new opportunities to Cyprus and Armenia for the development of trade-economic relations,” Galust Sahakyan added.
Addressing the President of the Republic of Cyprus the Head of the RA Parliament has stated that Armenia will continue making efforts in the recognition, condemnation and prevention of genocides. He documented that on March 24 of this year the RA National Assembly unanimously adopted a statement condemning the genocide perpetrated towards the Pontic Greeks and Assyrians by the Ottoman Empire. The NA Speaker highly assessed the activities of Cyprus aimed at the prevention of genocides, the restoration of the rights of peoples subjected to genocide and the establishment of justice. Galust Sahakyan expressed his gratitude for the adoption of the bill criminalizing the denial of the Armenian Genocide by the House of Representatives.
The President of Cyprus in his welcome word addressed to the RA NA Delegation has mentioned that Cyprus has been and always will remain as a brotherly country of Armenia and will make its efforts for supporting the friendly country.
Nikos Anastasiades reaffirmed his decision of taking part in the events dedicated to the Armenian Genocide Centennial.
In his remarks the President of Cyprus has noted that being aware of Azerbaijan’s provocative actions he fully shares the approach of the Republic of Armenia of resolving the NK problem exclusively through peaceful means.
