1 / 5

On April 22 the RA NA Galust Sahakyan received the delegation led by Mohammad Jihad al-Laham, Speaker of the People’s Council of the Arab Republic of Syria, which arrived in Armenia to take part in the events dedicated to the Armenian Genocide Centennial.

Welcoming the guests in the National Assembly, Galust Sahakyan expressed his gratitude to the People’s Council of Syria for the works being done for the recognition of the Armenian Genocide. He especially touched upon the sitting dedicated to the discussions of the Syrian Parliament on the genocide condemnation and highly assessed Mohammad Jihad al-Laham’s speech.

In the NA Speaker’s word, Syria in our history was of crucial importance: at the beginning of the 20th century it gave asylum thousands of Armenian emigrants.

Speaking about the war going on in Syria, Galust Sahakyan also referred to the destruction of the Saint Martyrs’ Church and expressed his concern for the disasters fallen to the Syrian people’s lot.

The Speaker of the National Assembly wished peace and inner-political stability to the brotherly people of Syria.

Mohammad Jihad al-Laham has noted that it is an honour for him to take part in the events dedicated to the Armenian Genocide Centennial.

He has documented that despite the situation in Syria, they have preferred to be by the brotherly Armenian people’s side and share their grief.

Touching upon the denial of the Armenian Genocide by Turkey he has stated that that country is the bearer of the extremist Islamic ideology.

Highlighting the events of commemorating the genocide victims, Mohammad Jihad al-Laham has mentioned that we should fight against genocides, wars and annihilation, drawing attention of the world to all revelations of extremism and denialism.
