On May 5, the National University of Architecture and Construction of Armenia (NUACA) hosted the Member of the Bundestag of the Federal Republic of Germany, President of Germany-Armenia Forum Albert Weiler. The RA NA Deputy, Head of Armenia-Germany Friendship Group Artak Davtyan, the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the RA to FRG Ashot Smbatyan, the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of FRG to the RA Bernhard Matthias Kiesler, as well as a group of German students studying in the National University of Architecture and Construction of Armenia attended the meeting.

Welcoming the guests the President of the National University of Architecture and Construction of Armenia Gagik Galstyan thanked the deputy Weiler for his pro-Armenian activities. The President introduced the activity of the University and the cooperation with the European leading countries, including the higher educational institutions of Germany.

The RA NA Deputy, Head of Armenia-Germany Friendship Group Artak Davtyan welcomed Albert Weiler’s visit to Armenia as a good friend of our state and people and skilled politician.

Artak Davtyan especially highlighted Albert Weiler’s efforts made and the work done in the international recognition of the Armenian Genocide. Recalling Albert Weiler’s speech during the Global Forum Against a Crime of Genocide held in Yerevan within the framework of the Armenian Genocide Centennial, Artak Davtyan once again emphasized the position of the Federal Republic of Germany on the Armenian Genocide. Artak Davtyan also highlighted the debate of the Resolution on the recognition and condemnation of the Armenian Genocide being expected in June of this year in Bundestag.

By the decision of the Academic Council of the National University of Architecture and Construction of Armenia the Member of the Bundestag of the Federal Republic of Germany, President of Germany-Armenia Forum Albert Weiler was granted a title of Honourable Doctor of the National University of Architecture and Construction of Armenia for the contribution to the strengthening of the Armenian-German friendship.

Thanking the leadership of the University for getting the tilte of Honourable Doctor Albert Weiler expressed hope that in Bundestag the document on the recognition and condemnation of the Armenian Genocide will be comprehensively considered.

According to him, the Resolution will affirm the term ‘Genocide.’ Let us note that the Member of the Bundestag appeared in the so called ‘black list’ of Azerbaijan because of his visit to Nagorno Karabakh.

Albert Weiler touched upon the visa regime facilitation between the two countries, as well as the exchange programmes being implemented between the Universities of the two countries.

At the end of the meeting Albert Weiler took a tour in the National University of Architecture and Construction of Armenia and communicated with the students.
