On May 24, the Chairman of the NA Standing Committee on State and Legal Affairs Hovhannes Sahakyan and the Committee member Vahram Mkrtchyan met with the representatives of the Westminster Foundation for Democracy. Let us note the goal of the Delegation’s visit is the provision of the consultations in the legislative and control activities.

Welcoming the guests Hovhannes Sahakyan presented the Constitutional reforms implemented in our country and the processes of corresponding the legislation following it. In this context Mr Sahakyan presented in detail the phases and main provisions of the debate of the RA new Draft Electoral Code.

The Committee Chairman has informed the guests that in autumn that the draft law the NA Rules of procedure will be put into circulation and debated, which, according to Mr Sahakyan’s conviction, is one of the key laws of the parliamentary government.

In terms of exchanges of experience in the legislative work both sides highlighted mutual visits, touched upon the structure and the activities of different parliamentary factions and committees, the realization of the oversight function of the parliament in different countries and the formation of the qualitative minority.

The interlocutors exchanged thoughts over the debate of the legislative initiatives and their adoption procedures, the mechanisms of removing the law from circulation and other issues.
