On September 6, the delegation on an official visit to Argentina, led by the RA National Assembly Deputy Speaker Eduard Sharmazanov and comprised of the NA MPs Sukias Avetisyan and Mikayel Manukyan, met with the Argentine Senate and Chamber of Deputies members of the Argentina-Armenia parliamentary group.

The NA Deputy Speaker expressed hope that the active contacts with two countries’ parliaments will have a positive impact on the dynamic development of bilateral relations.

Eduard Sharmazanov noted that as the Head of the Armenia – Argentina parliamentary group he would like to specially emphasize the necessity to establish close relations between the parliamentary friendship groups in both parliaments. According to him, interaction of the friendship groups may contribute to the Armenian-Argentinian cooperation in the spheres of mutual concern. The NA Deputy Speaker invited the Argentina-Armenia friendship group to visit Armenia .

The Head of the Armenian delegation highlighted the necessity to mutually support the Armenian and Argentinian parliamentarians on international platforms.

Eduard Sharmazanov introduced the present state of the opposing forces in the Karabakh-Azerbaijani line of contact, stating, in particular, “We live in a region full of challenges, where on the one hand Turkey keeps the Republic of Armenia in illegal blockade for already two decades, on the other hand Azerbaijan threatens the regional security and stability by his criminal policy. Everyone should realize that Artsakh people’s right to self-determination has no alternative. The Armenians of Artsakh has the right to self-determination as much as any other country’s people. It’s high time Artsakh was internationally recognized.    

At the end of the meeting a cooperation agreement between the National Assembly of the Republic of Armenia and the Chamber of Deputies of the Republic of Argentina was signed.
