On September 21, the RA NA Deputy Speaker being on a working visit to Saint Petersburg, took part in the anniversary event dedicated to the 25^th anniversary of RA Independence in Tauride Palace. The NA Deputy Speaker delivered a speech, noting in particular:

“Dear friends,

25 years ago the Armenian people made their choice for the Independence; independence for which our generations fought. Our people’s heroic history is nothing but a struggle for independence and freedom. It was like that, when Hayk Patriarch, defeating Bel, the tyrant of Babylon, the symbol of the evil in the Old World, reestablished our right to independent statehood. It was like that, when Tigran the Great was defending our Motherland from the campaigns of Pompey. It was also like that, when the Armenians proved that death realized is immortality and granted life for the coming generations in 451 in Avarayr. And in that very Avarayr the Armenian people reiterated their commitment to the two pillars of their spirit: the God and the Motherland.

Dear attendees,

The aspiration of independence did not abandon us even during the Genocide: it was during those very days that genius Armenian writer Tumanian spoke about new Armenia. Just as Christ resurrected on the third day of his physical death, so too did the Armenian people heroically defeat the Turks after 3 years of the Genocide, having rebirth in Sardarapat, Bash Aparan and Gharakilisa, reaffirming that light disperses darkness. It was in May battles that Turk Vehib Pasha said that the Armenians proved that they are the best soldiers of the world.

It was the very aspiration of freedom and independence that directed 600.000 Armenian sons to the front of the Great Patriotic War. Defending Moscow and Stalingrad, they were defending Yerevan and Shushi. Later the sons and grandsons of the Great Patriotic War heroes became the builders of the Armenian statehood and Artsakh heroic battle. And also due to their struggle that today we are the bearers of the 25-year old independence.

Eternal glory to our heroes! Long live the Republic of Armenia! Long live the Republic of Artsakh and the Armenian people!
