Joint Statement by the Standing Committees on Foreign Relations, on European Integration of the National Assembly of the Republic of Armenia and the Standing Committee on Foreign Relations of the National Assembly of Nagorno-Karabakh Republic (Artsakh)

Discussing the recent escalation of the situation in the conflict zone, as well as the continuous destructive and provocative actions by Azerbaijan, demonstration of xenophobia at the state level in Azerbaijan,

The parties:

Emphasize the implementation of the commitments taken by the 1994-95 ceasefire agreements;

Underline the importance of the agreements reached at the Vienna and St. Petersburg Summits, in particular the establishment of mechanisms for the investigation of ceasefire violations as a preventive tool;

Note that by violating its own commitments regarding the peaceful settlement of the conflict and hindering the implementation of preventive measures Azerbaijan assumes the responsibility with all the ensuing consequences;

Condemn the policy of consistent violation of the Geneva Convention by the military-political leadership of Azerbaijan, by deploying military bases near civilian settlements and using the peaceful population as a human shield;

Call on the international community to impose targeted political and economic sanctions on those responsible for aggravation of the situation in the conflict zone;

Expect more effective and practical efforts by the OSCE Minsk Group Co-Chairs aimed at stabilizing the situation and ensuring conditions for a progress in the peace process;

Call on the international organizations to actively contribute to the peaceful settlement of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict by supporting the efforts of the OSCE Minsk Group Co-Chairs.
