10th Jubilee Sitting of Inter-Parliamentary Committee on Cooperation between National Assemblies of Armenia and Belarus Held

On November 20, the 10th jubilee sitting of the Inter-Parliamentary Committee on Cooperation between the National Assembly of the Republic of Armenia and the National Assembly of the Republic of Belarus was held.

The RA NA Vice President, the Co-Chair of the Inter-Parliamentary Committee on Cooperation between the National Assembly of the Republic of Armenia and the National Assembly of the Republic of Belarus Eduard Sharmazanov had welcoming remarks. See the welcoming speech here.

In his opening remarks the Vice President of the House of the Representatives of the National Assembly of Belarus, the Co-Chair of the Inter-Parliamentary Committee Boleslav Pirshtuk highlighted the necessity of deepening of the Armenian-Belarus relations and especially touched upon the common historical past. He has talked about the cooperation of the parliamentary delegations of the two countries on the international platforms and has underlined that the Belarusian side is ready to discuss all the problems of bilateral agenda at parliamentary level. Mr Pirshtuk emphasized the deepening of cooperation in different spheres (humanitarian, trade-economic, cultural, and scientific-educational) between the regions, etc.

The Committee Co-Chair wished fruitful work to the participants of the sitting.

The first item of the item related to the cooperation of the parliamentary delegations in the inter-parliamentary organizations.

The member of the Inter-Parliamentary Committee from the Armenian side Hayk Babukhanyan and the member of the Inter-Parliamentary Committee from the Belarusian side Oleg Rummo touched upon the problems of bilateral cooperation on the international parliamentary platforms, particularly in the IPA CIS, the CSTO PA and EEU, the cooperation in the framework of observation missions. The sides also referred to the regional challenges and the ways of facing them. Hayk Babukhanyan talked about the peaceful settlement of the NK problem and the issue of the Armenian Genocide recognition and the consequences of keeping closed the border with Armenia. He has also noted about 'the black list' of Azerbaijan, where the visitors to Artsakh appear. Mr Babukhanyan considered inadmissible such work style.

The second item of the sitting related to the trade-economic relations between Armenia and Belarus in the EEU format and the perspectives of cooperation. The members of the Inter-Parliamentary Committee Vahe Enfiajyan and Vladislav Shchepov gave speeches on the theme. They presented the steps taken for the development dynamics of the economy in two countries and the development of the trade-economic ties. It has been noted that the sides are concerned over the presentation of their goods in the markets of the two countries. The sides highlighted the steps taken for the increase of the volumes of the goods turnover, recording that the existing potential is not fully used. The potential of cooperation between the two countries in the spheres of trade, industry, agriculture, transport, health care, culture, education and science was stressed. The issue of possibility for establishing joint ventures was discussed.

At the end of the sitting the sides have underlined with satisfaction that there are positive preconditions for deepening of the Armenian-Belarusian relations.

A decision was made to form working groups for discussing the concrete ways of cooperation and programmes in the trade-economic, information and humanitarian spheres.

The next sitting of the member of the Inter-Parliamentary Committee will be held in Minsk in 2018.
