Ara Babloyan Receives OSCE/ODIHR Director

On November 21, the RA NA President Ara Babloyan received the OSCE/ODIHR Director Ingibjörg Sólrún Gísladóttir.

Ara Babloyan congratulated Mrs Gísladóttir on assuming the post of the Director of the OSCE Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights (ODIHR)) and wished her success in the implementation of the mission.

The RA NA President evaluated the efforts of the OSCE in establishing security and stability in the region.

In the word of the President of the Parliament, Armenia highlights the mediation of the OSCE Minsk Group Co-Chairs in the NK conflict settlement as a functional and only format.

The RA NA President highlighted the implementation of the unbiased observations missions by the OSCE PA and OSCE ODIHR during the elections in the OSCE member countries.

Ara Babloyan noted that during the works directed to the elaboration of the Electoral Code and the rise of the quality of the elections Armenia always cooperated with the Venice Commission and the OSCE/ODIHR. He thanked the international structures for contributing to the improvement of the electoral system in Armenia. The RA NA President touched upon the OSCE/ODIHR report on the parliamentary elections, by which the elections had been well organized.

Ara Babloyan also talked about the process following the constitutional reforms in our country, the representation of women and national minorities in the parliament of this convocation and the increase of the opposition rights.

Thanking for the reception, Ingibjörg Sólrún Gísladóttir emphasized the cooperation of the organization led by her with Armenia. Mrs Gísladóttir referred to the assessment given by the OSCE/ODIHR Observation Mission during the parliamentary elections in Armenia and stressed the importance of the steps being taken in the development of democracy in our country.

The OSCE/ODIHR Director also touched upon the issues relating to the women's involvement in the parliament, the transition  to the model of the parliamentary government from the semi-presidential one and the steps being taken in the development of the protection of human rights.

Ingibjörg Sólrún Gísladóttir expressed readiness to continue the cooperation with Armenia for promoting the development of democracy in our country.
