Ara Babloyan Receives Deputy Foreign Minister of Greece

On December 15, the RA NA President Ara Babloyan received the Deputy Foreign Minister of the Hellenic Republic Terens-Nikolaos Quick.

Welcoming the guest in the parliament, Ara Babloyan touched upon the Armenian and Greek peoples’ centuries-old friendship and the common historical past.

The RA NA President thanked the Greek people for giving shelter the Armenian immigrants who had survived the Armenian Genocide and later for adopting resolutions on recognizing the Genocide and condemning the denial.

The RA NA President referred to the strengthening of the relations existing between Armenia and Greece and the expansion of the spheres of cooperation.

Ara Babloyan highlighted the role of the parliamentary diplomacy in the deepening of the relations, as well as talked about the necessity of the rapprochement of the cooperation of the parliamentary delegations of the two countries in the international structures.

The RA NA President touched upon the events occurred in the PABSEC and expressed concern over the position adopted towards the Armenian delegation.

With regards to the Comprehensive and Enhanced Partnership Agreement signed between Armenia and the European Union, Ara Babloyan noted that it would boost the process of the reforms going on in our country in the direction of strengthening of democratic institutions, human rights and rule of law, making closer Armenia-EU cooperation.

The Deputy Foreign Minister of the Hellenic Republic Terens-Nikolaos Quick thanked for the reception and referred to the great role of the Greek-Armenian community in the public-political life of Greece.

Regarding the conflicts existing today in the world the Deputy Foreign Minister confirmed the position of Greece on solving them through negotiations.

Terens-Nikolaos Quick also talked about the parliamentary diplomacy, underlining the importance of deepening cooperation and mutually beneficial partnership on the international platforms between the parliaments. Mr Quick proposed the possibility of the trilateral meeting of the heads of the parliaments of Greece, Armenia and Cyprus.

At the end of the meeting the Deputy Foreign Minister wished successes to the RA NA President in connection with turning to the system of the parliamentary government.
