Ara Babloyan Meets with Speaker of Parliament of Bulgaria Tsveta Karayancheva in Geneva

On March 25, within the framework of the 138th Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union the Speaker of the National Assembly of the Republic of Armenia Ara Babloyan had a meeting with the Speaker of the National Assembly of the Republic of Bulgaria Tsveta Karayancheva in Geneva.

Talking about the two peoples' old friendship, numerous cultural connections, Ara Babloyan has noted that all favourable bases are available for further development of the Armenian-Bulgarian relations. The stable development of the friendly relations with Bulgaria and the strengthening of the political dialogue between the two states, by the conviction of the Head of the RA parliament, are of great importance for the Republic of Armenia. Documenting that good tradition has already been formed between the Friendship Groups functioning in the legislative bodies of the two countries Ara Babloyan has highlighted the role of the parliamentary diplomacy in terms of strengthening of bilateral relations and deepening of cooperation.

The Speaker of the RA National Assembly congratulated his Bulgarian colleague on assuming the Presidency of the EU Council by Bulgaria and wished her success. Ara Babloyan particularly noted: “We share the slogan of the Presidency of Bulgaria – it is necessary to be united for solving the EU current problems.”

Speaking about the Comprehensive and Enhanced Partnership Agreement signed in Brussels in November of the previous year between the Republic of Armenia and the European Union, the Head of the RA Parliament has stated that the Agreement opens a new page in the relations between Armenia and the European Union. Ara Babloyan expressed hope that Bulgaria would ratify the abovementioned Agreement in the shorter term.

“Mrs Speaker, I am glad for our meeting and I believe that the regularity of such meetings will give new impetus to the development of inter-state relations and strengthening of bilateral mutually beneficial cooperation,” the head of the RA parliament noted.

The Speaker of the National Assembly of the Republic of Bulgaria Tsveta Karayancheva thanked the RA NA Speaker for the meeting and noted: “I assure you that on behalf of Bulgaria, Armenia has a good friend which will support Armenia in the cooperation with the European Union.

Tsveta Karayancheva invited Ara Babloyan to the Republic of Bulgaria.

The sides agreed to deepen the parliamentary cooperation, as well as to undertake necessary steps in the development of cooperation between the two countries in different spheres.
