Eduard Sharmazanov to Deputy Speaker of Swedish Parliament: Issue of Artsakh is Not a Territorial Dispute, but a Struggle for Self-Determination and Freedom

On May 14, the RA NA Deputy Speaker Eduard Sharmazanov met with the delegation headed by the Deputy Speaker of Parliament of Sweden Björn Söder.

The NA Deputy Speaker highlighted the expansion of the multilateral mutually beneficial cooperation and the activation of the inter-parliamentary contacts with Sweden. Eduard Sharmazanov touched upon the activities of the Parliamentary Friendship Groups and the effective cooperation of the delegations on the inter-parliamentary platforms.

Highly assessing the condemnation of the Armenian Genocide by the Parliament of Sweden, Eduard Shramazanov emphasized the universal recognition and condemnation of genocides in prevention of such crimes. He proposed to discuss the issue of the possibility of holding the exhibition with the heading Parliamentarians against Genocides dedicated to the 70th anniversary of the adoption of the Convention of Prevention and Punishment of the Crime of Genocide in Sweden.

The RA Deputy Speaker has considered concerning the denial policy of Turkey after more than one century and documented that the authorities of that country also pursue deconstructive policy in the issue of the settlement of Nagorno Karabakh problem.

“The issue of Artsakh is not a territorial dispute, but is a struggle for self-determination and freedom,” the RA NA Deputy Speaker underlined.

In the course of the meeting the parties also referred to other issues of bilateral interest.
