Representatives of OSCE Participating States Hosted in Parliament

On June 18, within the framework of their visit to the South Caucasus the permanent representatives of the OSCE participating states being in Armenia on a working visit met with the Chair of the RA NA Standing Committee on Foreign Relations Armen Ashotyan, the Chair of the RA NA Standing Committee on Defense and Security and the members of the Armenian delegation to the OSCE PA.

The interlocutors discussed issues related to the regional security, Armenia-OSCE cooperation format, and the reforms of the upcoming parliamentary extraordinary elections.

With regards to the issue of the regional security and the settlement of Nagorno Karabakh conflict, the Chair of the RA NA Standing Committee on Foreign Relations Armen Ashotyan has noted that the proposals of the OSCE Minsk Group are not considered to be the Armenians’ dream, but at this moment - the only possible approach of the peaceful settlement of the problem. The Committee Chair has underlined that Azerbaijan continues its bellicose policy and, taking the advantage of the inner-political situation of Armenia, during the period of June 10-16 in the line of contact of Artsakh-Azerbaijani conflicting troops have broken the ceasefire regime about 250 times, more than 2500 shots. In parallel with this, in recent days in different sections of the line of contact of Artsakh-Azerbaijani conflicting troops active moves and accumulations of the adversary’s military equipment and human force have been recorded.

Addressing the interlocutors, Armen Ashotyan has stressed that the OSCE is the only legitimate structure which has a mandate to solve the NK conflict.

The MPs Koryun Nahapetyan, Sasun Mikayelyan, Spartak Seyranyan expressed their viewpoints on the issues under debate. Koryun Nahapetyan has underlined that Armenia is open for multilateral relations with the OSCE, including the spheres of national security and defense.

Touching upon the Electoral Code, the representatives of the political forces highlighted the implementation of the reforms in mutually admissible conditions which would give an opportunity to hold free, fair and transparent elections.

“The upcoming extraordinary parliamentary elections should be on the distinct way of the establishment of democracy in Armenia,” the member of the Yelq/Way out Faction Sasun Mikayelyan said.

In the context of the reforms in the Electoral he member of the RA NA ARF Faction Spartak Seyranyan highlighted the rise of the parliamentary government efficiency.
