1 / 4

On September 4, the RA NA President Ara Babloyan received the OSCE Secretary General Thomas Greminger.

Welcoming the guest, the Head of the parliament has underlined that Armenia greatly highlights the cooperation with the OSCE and expressed hope that the visit will promote the development and the deepening of cooperation.

The President of the National Assembly emphasized the intervention of the OSCE Minsk Group in the Nagorno Karabakh conflict settlement as a main format of the negotiation format. “The basis of the Nagorno Karabakh conflict settlement is the recognition and realization of the Artsakh people’s right to self-determination,” Ara Babloyan said.

The Head of the legislative body expressed concern over the suspension of the OSCE Yerevan Office activities.

Touching upon the events in Armenia, the NA President has noted that the concerns were voiced earlier on some inner-political issues and in that context at his initiative meetings were held with the Prime Minister, the President and the Human Rights Defender of the country.

During the talk with Thomas Greminger Ara Babloyan stressed that the problems should be solved by preserving the rule of the Constitution and we should come to political consensus in the atmosphere of appropriate political discussions.

Expressing his gratitude for the reception Thomas Greminger has underscored that the goal of the visit is the expansion and strengthening of the relations and cooperation with Armenia. Greminger noted that though the OSCE Armenia Office discontinued its activities, however the organization would continue to advance the cooperation with Armenia in all possible ways.

Highlighting the effective cooperation formed between Armenia and the OSCE/ODIHR, the OSCE Secretary General has noted that he is ready to assist Armenia in the process of the electoral reforms.

Speaking about the Nagorno Karabakh conflict settlement Thomas Greminger has documented that as OSCE Secretary General he is ready to assist the OSCE Minsk Group Co-Chairs as much as possible.

The interlocutors referred to the fight against corruption, the regional problems and other issues of bilateral interest.
