On February 25, within the framework of the working visit to Moscow the delegation led by the Speaker of the RA National Assembly Ararat Mirzoyan met with the Speaker of the Federation Council of the Federal Assembly Valentina Matviyenko.
Welcoming the delegation of the National Assembly the Speaker of the Federation Council has expressed satisfaction that the NA Speaker pays his first working visit to the Russian Federation, which underlines the strategic character of bilateral relations. In this context Valentina Matviyenko has noted that the speech being expected by the Speaker of the RA National Assembly at the plenary sitting of the Federation Council on February 27 is of exceptional character.
Touching upon the democratic processes held in the Republic of Armenia, the Speaker of the Federation Council highlighted their exclusively peaceful character and the correspondence with the rules of procedure of the constitutional law.
Thanking Ms Matviyenko for the invitation the Head of the legislative body of Armenia has highly assessed the level of the cooperation existing through many years between the two parliaments and has assured that the National Assembly of the new convocation is concerned about having constructive dialogue with its colleagues in Russia and is ready to more deepen it, including in the agenda the framework of the items of bilateral interest directed to the strengthening of the Armenian-Russian alliance relations.
In the course of the meeting items concerning the cooperation in bilateral and multilateral formats were discussed. Ararat Mirzoyan noted that the works of the formations of the inter-parliamentary committee members of the National Assembly of the 7th convocation had already begun and expressed hope that in the near future an opportunity would be created to convene the regular sitting of the Inter-Parliamentary Committee on Cooperation between the National Assembly of the Republic of Armenia and the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation which had been postponed for one year on different reasons.
During the exchange of thoughts the sides expressed readiness to trust the Co-Chairmanship of the Inter-Parliamentary Committee to the Deputy Speakers of the two countries’ parliaments. At the same time the strengthening of the relations at the level of the relevant committees of the legislative bodies.
