Issues on Electoral Reforms Discussed

On February 28, the President of the RA National Assembly Ararat Mirzoyan received the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of France to Armenia Jonathan Lacôte, the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) Armenia Mission Director Deborah Grieser and the members of the Delegation of the State Council of France Yves Doutriaux and Yves Gounin, who were in our country at the invitation of the USAID within the framework of the program Strengthening of Electoral Processes and Political Accountability .

Welcoming the guests Ararat Mirzoyan has noted that the reforms of the electoral legislation and the establishment of the electoral system and the development of relevant institutes are considered as an important part of our country’s political agenda.

Highlighting the meetings in such format Jonathan Lacôte has underlined that the representatives of different structures being in Armenia are concerned about bilateral cooperation.

Ms Deborah Grieser has assured that the USAID is ready to continue the joint programs under implementation and call them into life.

At the guests’ request the Head of the parliament presented the steps to be taken in the issues of the reforms of the Electoral Code and fight against corruption in the future and the format of the necessary legal regulations.

The interlocutors highlighted the active cooperation between the National Assembly and the international organizations functioning in Armenia.

The President of the National Assembly expressed his readiness to assist the further cooperation.
