Ararat Mirzoyan Receives Ambassador of Greece to Armenia

On March 1, the Head of the Armenian Parliament Ararat Mirzoyan received the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Hellenic Republic to the RA Nafsika Nancy Eva Vraila.

Welcoming the Ambassador, the President of the National Assembly underlined the centuries-old historical ties, spiritual and cultural connections formed between the two peoples. Ararat Mirzoyan has assured that the newly elected parliament is ready to further deepen and strengthen the shaped traditional relations.

The Head of the legislative body highlighted the adoption of the bill establishing criminal responsibility for the denial of the genocides by the Parliament of Greece in September in 2014. In this context the Head of the parliament also noted that the National Assembly of Armenia unanimously adopted a statement condemning the genocide perpetrated towards the Pontian Greeks and Assyrians by the Ottoman Empire on March 24, 2015.

Congratulating Ararat Mirzoyan on being elected President of the National Assembly, Nafsika Nancy Eva Vraila highlighted the parliamentary elections held in consonance with the constitutional norms in Armenia.

Talking about the two peoples’ good neighbourly firm relations, the Ambassador expressed readiness for continuing the joint programmes and deepening the cooperation.

Touching upon the development of the inter-parliamentary ties, the sides underscored the necessity of the active contacts and mutual visits in the format of the Friendship Groups, as well as other groups, which would promote the further expansion of bilateral relations.

The interlocutors have discussed the agenda of the Armenian-Greek cooperation in many spheres, have emphasized the boosting of the trade-economic ties, stressing that there is still non used great potential for development and deepening of bilateral cooperation. The Ambassador has informed that in the future the visit of the Greek businessmen’s delegation to Armenia is designed for discussing the perspectives of the expansion of the economic relations.

Speaking about the cultural and educational joint programmes Ararat Mirzoyan evaluated the support being shown in the sphere of military and civil education for many years.

During the meeting the parties referred to cooperation in Armenia-Greece-Cyprus trilateral format and the ratification processes of Armenia-European Union Comprehensive and Enhanced Partnership Agreement.
