Vladimir Vardanyan: Genocide is an Encroachment Not only Against Armenian People, But Also Against Humanity

On April 22, the Chair of the RA NA Standing Committee on State and Legal Affairs Vladimir Vardanyan and the member of the NA Standing Committee on Foreign Relations Tatevik Hayrapetyan met with the members of the organisation Union Against Genocide of Germany.

Welcoming the guests in parliament Vladimir Vardanyan highlighted the efforts of the organisation in recognition of the Armenian Genocide by Turkey. According to the Chair of the Standing Committee, the xenophobia is laid in the basis of the Genocide, against which he has considered the everyday fight. “In 1930s-1940s Germany was a developed, civilised country, but as a consequence of xenophobia campaign Holocaust took place,” the MP said. The speaker has noted that the recognition of the Genocide and facing the past is an important pledge for the Turkish people to build a fair and democratic state. According to him, in the 21st century it is not possible to live with their calm conscience without facing its own history.

The Chairman of the Turkish-German Association Union Against Genocide Ali Ertem has noted that their organization fights for restoration of justice.

“For 20 years we have been fighting in order Turkey to recognize the Armenian Genocide. We try to keep that item on the agenda of Turkey," he said. According to the Chairman of the organisation, they also fight for the restoration of the fair cause of the Pontic Greeks, Assyrians, Yezidis and other peoples subjected to genocide on the territory of Asia Minor. The Turkish human rights defender assured that their fight would be continuous.

Tatevik Hayrapetyan expressed her gratitude to the members of the organisation, highlighted their mission in the recognition of the Armenian Genocide. She also informed that during student’s years they had cooperated with the German and Turkish students on the problems of genocide, as a result of which the tri-lingual book Mush Sweet Mush was created.

German schoolchildren of different ages attended the meeting. The Chairman of the organisation noted that the new generation should know the whole truth about the Armenian Genocide. They will take part in the march with torches, and on April 24 will visit Tsitsernakaberd Memorial Complex.

At the end of the meeting Ali Ertem gave a book in German on the Armenian Genocide and big photos to the Chair of the Standing Committee.
