Issues on Mining Industry Sphere Discussed

At May 3 discussion, the Mining Industry Legislation Analysis Working Group adjunct to the RA NA Standing Committee on Territorial Administration, Local Self-Government, Agriculture and Environment moderated by the RA NA deputy Mary Galstyan touched upon the legislative gaps of the mining industry sphere in the context of the natural resources management and the directions of their complex solution.

The mapping of the regulation priorities of the sphere, the discussion of the participants’ voiced legislative gaps and the planning of the further works were on the working discussion agenda.

The Head of the Working Group Mary Galstyan presented to the Group members the main directions of the reforms in the sphere, particularly in terms of decent assessment of the impact on the environment and human health, the provision of the technical and working security, the decent awareness of the community, the participation in decision-making, the transparency of the sphere and the accessibility of justice.

Geologists, representatives of the NGOs, the RA Ministry of Nature Protection, journalists and independent experts took part in the working discussion.

Mary Galstyan has highlighted the discussions in such format, noting that the goal of the Working Group formation is to create an advisory platform, where the specialists can present the raised gaps, analyses of the sphere, promoting the process of legislative field reforms.
