Chess Festival in National Assembly Park

On July 20, Chess Swallows Festival dedicated to the International Chess Day was organized in the RA National Assembly Park. The International Chess Day has been celebrated since 1966. The International Chess Federation (FIDE), founded on 20 July 1924 in Paris, had the idea of creating the holiday. According to some FIDE data, 605mln adults in the world play chess all the time.

The RA NA deputies, more than 120 chess loving children and juniors from different marzes of Armenia and Diaspora took part in the event organized in the parliament.

The former Vice President of the Chess Federation of Norway Vibeke Ekeland Gronn attended the chess festival and observed the procedure of the games.

Welcoming the participants the Chair of the RA NA Standing Committee on Science, Education, Culture, Diaspora, Youth and Sport Mkhitar Hayrapetyan has highlighted the event organized by the National Assembly within the framework of the International Chess Day, noting that it has a goal to promote the further dissemination and development of chess in Armenia.

According to the Chair of the Committee, such events will be continuous, and the parliament will encourage the dissemination of sport through various kinds of tournaments.

The tournament was held in seven rounds, ten minutes was given for each match.

In the picturesque park of the parliament the contest of the intellectual game lovers of the world went on for several hours, as a result of which, the first three places respectively occupied junior chess players: Robert Piliposyan – the first place, Robert Muradyan – the second place, and Benik Agasarov – the third place.

The Chair of the RA NA Standing Committee on Science, Education, Culture, Diaspora, Youth and Sport Mkhitar Hayrapetyan congratulated the contest winners and handed over prizes, diplomas and letters of appreciation. The arbiters Tigran Gasparyan, Gevorg Muradyan and Vahagn Khachatryan were given Letters of Appreciation for organizing and holding the festival at best.

The Executive Director of Yerevan Chess Federation Norayr Kalantaryan also received a Letter of Appreciation by the RA NA Standing Committee on Science, Education, Culture, Diaspora, Youth and Sport for supporting the organization of the Chess Swallows Tournament.
