On July 28, an event on the occasion of the Feast of Vardavar was organized in the National Assembly Park and Baghramyan Avenue.

The Armenian Church also calls the Feast of Transfiguration of Christ Vardavar. The latter has the name of the old Armenian holiday, which is associated with pouring water on one another, and it has been preserved.

The RA NA deputy Hripsime Grigoryan, speaking about adding Armenian carpet component to the event, stressed the necessity of publicizing the culture. “Vardavar is one of our most popular holidays, which has been celebrated through many centuries in Armenian and Artsakh, as well as Diaspora. The carpet making is also a living culture, as today it is developing and improving, and it needs to be publicly declared. The meaning of Transfiguration, as well as, Theophany that Vardavar has, we decided to make more recognizable the Armenian carpets,” Hripsime Grigoryan noted. According to her, one of the far-reaching goals of the event is the agenda item of having a modern, interactive museum of the Armenian carpet, which will give an opportunity to present this particle of the Armenian rich culture to the world.

First, the participants of the event washed the carpets in Baghramyan Avenue, then pouring water on one another.

During the day in the National Assembly Park Armenian hand-woven carpets presented by Tufenkian Carpets, Megerian Carpet and the Armenian Carpet National Centre were shown. Carpet Making Master Classes and a talk about carpets were held, prizes were handed over to the winners of the quest game.

The event ended up with the concert of Miqayel Voskanyan and Friends band.
