A Number of Issues Concerning Iraqi Yezidis Discussed

On October 1, the members of the RA NA Armenia-Iraq Friendship Group on the initiative of the Group Member Rustam Bakoyan met with the delegation led by an MP of Yezidi origin of the Iraqi Parliament Saib Khidir.

Welcoming the visit of the delegation to the National Assembly the Head of the Friendship Group Hovhannes Hovhannisyan has noted that the Armenian and Yezidi peoples have always historically been friends, and at present those brotherly relations continue.

In that context Hovhannes Hovhannisyan highlighted the anointment of the Yezidi Taus Melekê and Seven Great Angels Temple a few days ago.

The Head of the Friendship Group has noted that the visit to Iraq is designed which will promote the development of the two countries' cooperation.

Thanking for the meeting the MP of the Iraqi Parliament presented the problems of Sinjar Yezidis, particularly in the health care and educational spheres.

The deputy of the RA National Assembly, the representative of the Yezidi community Rustam Bakoyan noted that during his visit to Iraq, he got acquainted with numerous problems of the Yezidis living in Sinjar and expressed readiness to assist them in the solution of those problems.

The sides have touched upon the policy being pursued towards the national minorities in Armenia and stated that opportunities are created for the preservation and development of the Yezidis' spiritual, cultural and national values. The representatives of the national minorities living in Armenia actively take part in the public, political and cultural happenings of the country.

Both sides emphasized the frequent mutual visits at the most different levels.
