On October 24, within the framework of the Conference of Presidents of Parliament of the Member States of the Council of Europe the President of the RA National Assembly Ararat Mirzoyan met with the President of the National Council of Austria Wolfgang Sobotka.

Congratulating his colleague on the occasion of the first sitting of the newly elected Parliament of Austria, Ararat Mirzoyan expressed hope that the new parliament would continue strengthening and deepening the friendly relations with the RA national Assembly. He touched upon the necessity of activation of the inter-parliamentary cooperation, including at the level of the Friendship Groups.

Regarding the ratification of the RA-EU Comprehensive and Enhanced Agreement Ararat Mirzoyan has expressed hope that the newly elected parliament of Austria will ratify it within very short term, and in response to it Wolfgang Sobotka has assured him that there is no obstacle for ratifying it.

The President of the National Assembly Ararat Mirzoyan has noted that the best index of supporting to the democratic reforms implemented in Armenia by the European countries can be the launch of the dialogue over the visa liberalisation. The Head of the parliament has expressed hope that Austria will express its political support in this issue.

The parties underlined the necessity of the rapprochement of cooperation on the international inter-parliamentary platforms, particularly, the OSCE PA and PACE on the issues important for each other.

Wolfgang Sobotka proposed his colleague to have a meeting in bilateral format and discuss agenda items in the framework of the Conference of Speakers of Parliament of the Inter-Parliamentary Union to be held in Vienna in August next year.
