1 / 3

On December 11, the RA NA deputies Hamazasp Danielyan, Shake Isayan, Srbuhi Grigoryan and Taguhi Ghazaryan met with the delegation led by the Faye Minshall, Head of Gender and Conflict Team at Foreign & Commonwealth Office of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland. The discrimination attitude towards women and their passive participation in the local self-government elections, especially in the distant villages were on the focus of the discussion.

The MPs indicated the ways of expansion of the women’s involvement in the development of the communities. The reason of their non-active participation in the community elections, according to the parliamentarians, is also the amount of pledge designed for the candidate. According to the legislators, the last local self-government elections once again have shown that women continue to avoid entering into politics. The other obstacle of not taking part in the political life is the targeted attitude being manifested sometimes towards women. It was considered concerning the word of hatred being spread also in the social networks.

According to the MPs, though Armenia has a positive move in the abovementioned directions, nevertheless there are things to be done.

The British experience also was presented on the discussed issues.
