On September 8, the members of the RA NA Standing Committee on Protection of Human Rights met with the Representative of Modern Parliament for a Modern Armenia project by the UN Development Programme/UNDP Ruzanna Hayrapetyan and the Head of Ara Ghazaryan Legal Office Ara Ghazaryan.
The Committee Chair Naira Zohrabyan informed that it was proposed to present ideas of legislative initiatives for showing technical support, and in case of passing them the UNDP would show experts' support.
The UNDP has chosen three recommendations out of five presented by the Committee. They are: expertise and legal-technical support to the working group created for the discussions over the improvement of the RA legislation aimed at the fight against speech of hatred, field survey on early marriages among the Yezidis residing in Armenia and the third, revision of legislative regulations for protection of children's rights to exclude the speculations of the use of the institute and to protect the child's best interest.
The members of the working group created in the Committee, as well as the Head of the Legal Office Ara Ghazaryan presented the works and studies aimed at legislative amendments. Ara Ghazaryan has informed that certain works have been done to fight against slander; particularly it is designed to develop administrative-legal and civil-legal responsibility for those cases
The working group expects that the package of the legislative amendments aimed at fight against speech of hatred will submit for the debate of the parliament after 2-3 months.
It has been noted that works are going on also related to the other two themes approved by the UNDP.
