Ararat Mirzoyan Receives Ambassador of Sweden to Armenia Patrik Svensson

On February 16, the RA NA President Ararat Mirzoyan received the newly appointed Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Kingdom of Sweden to the Republic of Armenia Svensson Patrik.

Congratulating Ambassador Svensson on his appointment, the NA President expressed hope that the Ambassador would bring his important contribution to the enlargement of the Armenian-Swedish cooperation.

Noting that democracy, rule of law, fight against corruption are of key importance, Ararat Mirzoyan highlighted the continuous support of Sweden in the reforms of those spheres, as well as the assistance in the implementation of the programme Modern Parliament for a Modern Armenia of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP).

In the solution of the humanitarian problems caused because of the war unleashed by Azerbaijan against Artsakh the Speaker of the Parliament raised the issue of the quick repatriation of the Armenian prisoners of war (POWs) and captive persons. From this viewpoint, he underlined the practical steps being undertaken by the international community.

Patrik Svensson in his turn has stressed that Sweden highlights the expanded cooperation in different spheres and the support of his country in the reforms being made. He distinguished the directions of cooperation with Armenia – democracy, human rights, market economy and environment.

Speaking about Nagorno Karabakh problem, the Ambassador emphasized the work of the OSCE Minsk Group Co-Chairing. “Sweden chairs in the OSCE and would like to understand, how it can contribute to the solution of such conflicts,” the Ambassador said. In terms of the international humanitarian law, he considered necessary the issue of the repatriation of the captive persons.

The sides touched upon the complete operation of the RA-EU Comprehensive and Enhanced Partnership Agreement from March 1 of this year, which according to the Ambassador, would give a new quality to the RA-EU relations.

During the meeting, the parties discussed in detail the perspectives of the development, attached importance to the activation of the inter-parliamentary contacts also at the level of Friendship Groups and the enlargement of business ties.

At the Ambassador’s request, Ararat Mirzoyan introduced the agenda of the reforms being made in our country.
