The Speaker of the RA National Assembly Ararat Mirzoyan met with the U.S. Ambassador to Armenia Lynne M. Tracy and the Head of the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) to Armenia David Hoffman.
Welcoming the Ambassador, Ararat Mirzoyan presented the situation created after the adoption of the tripartite statement on ceasefire and underlined that the problem of the return of prisoners of war and captive persons to the Motherland is of prior importance for the Armenian side. The Speaker of the Parliament expressed hope that the U.S. would actively get involved in the urgent settlement of this problem. Mirzoyan has also underscored that we could not consider the Artsakh problem settled, as the issue of the Nagorno Karabakh status had not been resolved on the basis of the principle of the nations’ self-determination.
Ambassador Tracy in her turn has noted that the American side makes efforts to promote the return of prisoners of war.
The Head of the USAID David Hoffman presented to the President of the National Assembly in different spheres of its programmes, touching upon the works of the parliament and the programmes aimed at the development of the parliament’s capacities.
During the talk the parties debated issues on the Armenian-American general agenda, as well as both sides stressed the importance of calming down the inner-political situation in Armenia.
