Library of National Assembly: Parliaments and Parliamentary Rules of Procedure Series
1 / 7

The Armenian Library Association organizes and holds the National Library Week from 2002. This year it is held on April 12-19. The main goal of the National Library Week is to draw attention of all the layers of the society to libraries and library problems. The RA NA library, as every year, this year has jointed to this traditional event too.

We present the special working style, the principles of the Parliament Library and the logic of the arrangement of the bookshelves in the framework of the National Library Week.

There is lively atmosphere in the Library of the National Assembly. Everywhere there are books and bookshelves. The MPs and the staff have an opportunity to read the books presented in the collections, as well as to get acquainted with the publications of daily press. Every morning the newspapers are on the table of the library.

Unlike other libraries, books are arranged by another logic in the Parliament Library. The peculiarity is that books in Armenian and foreign languages are among series which have a thematic orientation. The circumstance which makes the work of a visitor easier contributing to the improvement of the work quality. This system does not work in other libraries.

The Parliaments series is in the honorable first place of the bookshelves. There are books, mainly albums and guidebooks telling about the parliaments of the world. The manuals and the theoretical works on the legislative body presenting the convocations of the National Assembly on the next shelf.

The activity of the Parliament is mainly regulated. The logical connection is conditioned by that: Parliaments series is followed by Parliamentary Rules of Procedure .

90% of the books presenting the history of the parliaments of other countries were formed thanks to donations: each delegation donated books from abroad to the library over the years.

There are a lot of books on bookshelves which have an archival value. We separated from that variety the manual “The Protocols of the sittings of the RA Parliament 1918-1920” which is a unique archival document. It was published on the occasion of the 90th anniversary of the Parliament of the First Republic of Armenia and the 20th anniversary of the Parliament of the Third Republic of Armenia. It is worth mentioning the collection of documents “The First Parliament of the Republic of Armenia: 1918-1920” dedicated to the 100th anniversary of the establishment of the First Republic. Documents and photos referring to the elections of the parliament, electoral legislation, composition of political forces, committees and adopted laws are presented in the book of archival value.
