On September 23, the RA NA President Alen Simonyan received the Head of Delegation of the European Union to the Republic of Armenia, the EU Ambassador Andrea Wiktorin.
Welcoming the EU Ambassador, the NA President has noted that the development of the partnership with the European Union is one of the priorities of Armenia’s foreign policy.
Alen Simonyan informed the Ambassador that the NA Delegation to the Euronest Parliamentary Assembly in the RA National Assembly, and the NA Delegation to the EU-Armenia Parliamentary Partnership Committee (PPC) is at the phase of formation.
The Head of Parliament expressed his gratitude for the significant support (2.6bln euros) being provided by the EU, stressing that it would be directed to a number of guidelines for the initiatives.
Thanking the NA President for the reception, the EU Ambassador greatly highlighted the fair and democratic parliamentary elections of 2021. She reaffirmed the EU continuous support to process of Armenia’s democratic reforms.
The sides touched upon the present phase of the Nagorno Karabakh conflict settlement, documenting that the issue settlement should be under the auspices of the OSCE Minsk Group Co-Chairmanship. In this context the issues of the regional stability and security were discussed. They referred to the provocative actions being carried out towards the RA sovereign territory by the Azerbaijani armed forces’ units.
At the end of the meeting both parties emphasized the implementation of the programmes aimed at the activation of the cooperation in the parliamentary format.
