Central Bank Should Be One of World Leaders in Field of Monetary Policy: Candidate for Deputy Governor of Central Bank

On January 18, the National Assembly continued the work of the regular sittings. The deputies passed the legislative initiatives debated on the previous day by voting.

Then the parliament debated the issue of the election of the Deputy Governor of the Central Bank (CB).

Hakob Arshakyan, presiding over the sitting has noted that according to Article 145 of the Constitutional Law the NA Rules of Procedure, the NA Standing Committee on Financial-Credit and Budgetary Affairs proposes to the National Assembly Hovhannes Khachatryan’s candidacy introduced by the Civil Contract Faction for the post of the CB Deputy Governor.

The Chair of the NA Standing Committee on Financial-Credit and Budgetary Affairs Gevorg Papoyan presented the biographical data of the candidate. He noted that Hovhannes Khachatryan studied and graduated from YSU Faculty of Economics. He has a master’s degree. He was elected the RA CB Board Member by parliament on July, 2020. He is a member of the Audit Committee of the structure.

Hovhannes Khachatryan thanked the Civil Contract Faction for nominating him as a candidate, as well as the members of the Standing Committee on Financial-Credit and Budgetary Affairs for the professional discussion and approving his candidacy. The candidate considered the issue of the CB digital currency a priority. According to Hovhannes Khachatryan, the responsible lending, as well as increasing the technological skills among the consumers to use financial services should be at the core of the protection of consumer interests. “The Central Bank should be one of the world leaders in the field of monetary policy, in particular, among developing countries,” the candidate underlined.

The parliament continues the debate of the issue.
