Alen Simonyan Attends the Modern Parliament for a Modern Armenia Project Board Meeting

On May 16, the RA NA President Alen Simonyan had an opening speech the UN Development Programme (UNDP) Modern Parliament for a Modern Armenia (MAP) Project Board Meeting.

Welcoming the attendees, he highly appreciated the results of the cooperation within the framework of the MAP Project, stressing that with the joint forces of the UNDP Project, the British and Swedish Governments the key issues were prioritised, the regular solutions which increase the target for the parliamentary democracy culture.

He recorded the efficiency of the work implemented with the deputies, the structural subdivisions of the Staff and the Parliament. The President of the Parliament drew the attendees' attention especially to the works around parliament digitalisation and launching of the best experience of the world parliaments.

As a visible and tangible outcome, Alen Simonyan pointed the adoption of the Criminal Code and the Criminal Procedure Code, the gender budgeting presented for the first time in the law on State Budget for 2022.

He also mentioned the activities for the Research and Training, and Parliamentary Democracy Centres created in the parliament within the framework of the MAP Project.

Concluding his speech, the RA NA President has underlined that MAP Project is one of the key projects for the National Assembly.

The UN Development Programme Modern Parliament for a Modern Armenia Project is implementing in cooperation with the RA National Assembly with generous support by the Embassy of Sweden to the benefit of the citizens of Armenia.

The Modern Parliament for a Modern Armenia Project (MAP) is designed to strengthen the National Assembly of the Republic of Armenia. (NA) in its fundamentally enhanced role within the governance system in carrying out its key functions – legislation, oversight and representation. With a long-term goal of enhancing the effectiveness of the NA as a policy-making institution, the Project is designed to support the NA with the focus on improved operational quality, transparency and inclusiveness of parliament and enhanced parliamentary capacity for gender responsive policy-making.
