On July 12, the deputies of the RA NA Civil Contract Faction Zaruhi Batoyan, Alkhas Ghzaryan and Lilit Stepanyan met with about 20 women and girls of Shirak Marz/Region, who visited the parliament on the initiative of the organization Women’s Rights House.
The organization carries out the programme Promoting of Women’s Political and Civic Participation by the support of The National Endowment for Democracy (NED), and its goal is to promote the woman’s participation in political decision-making. The seeking to improve the professional skills and knowledge, the exchange of experience brought together the women of different professions participating in the programme.
Welcoming the guests, the MPs highlighted the desire to get self-educated and to improve their knowledge.
Zaruhi Batoyan and Lilit Stepanyan noted that they are members of the Standing Committee on Labor and Social Affairs, presented the legislative work being done with the citizens.
“If you want to have changes in your country, you should also initiate those changes yourself. Of course, you can’t do it on your own, you should have a team to work with,” Zaruhi Batoyan stated, adding with thankfulness that the political team supported her in numerous initiatives.
Alkhas Ghazaryan informed that she is a member of the Standing Committee on State and Legal Affairs and noted that she continues her scientific activities. According to her, after the velvet revolution the attitude towards education was valued in a new way, and the Government implements many programmes aimed at the development of education and science. Emphasizing the self-education, Alkhas Ghazarian said: “If a person has a dream, desire and will, no obstacle will impede her to achieve her goal.” She welcomed the women, who visited the parliament, wishing them successes and new achievements.
Lilit Stepanyan presented her work path and attached importance to the support of the family in women’s life.
Answering the guests’ questions, the MPs spoke about the support being shown to our compatriots displaced from Nagorno Karabakh and, particularly, the women, the work being done with the national minorities living in Armenia, touched upon the women’s main issues in the communities and the work regarding the protection of rights. They stressed the team work, the cooperation, the courage and the responsibility.
Thanking for the opportunity of meeting and the effective discussion, the President of the organization Women’s Rights House Karine Davtyan noted that very important topics were considered and emphases were made, which will help the participants of the programme during their activities.
