Workshop at the National Assembly

On July 22 at the initiative of the EU Advisory Group to the RA a workshop was held “On Cooperation between the European Parliament and the National Parliaments of the EU Member States.”

In the opening word the RA NA deputy, Co-Chair of the Committee on Armenia-European Union Parliamentary Cooperation Samvel Farmanyan has noted that the European Union remains one of the RA most important partners, and Armenia is concerned about continuing and deepening the cooperation with the EU also in parliamentary format. According to Mr Farmanyan, such discussions promote well understanding of each other’s positions, drawing conclusions, which can be useful for the further works of the Committee on Parliamentary Cooperation.

During the event Kaja Krawczyk, Advisor on EU-Armenia Parliamentary Cooperation, EUAG Andrej Didenko, Chargé d'Affaires, EU Delegation to Armenia, Dr. Thomas Grunert, Head of Unit for 'Enlargement and European Economic Area', Directorate General “External Policies,” General Secretariat of the European Parliament delivered speeches. It was noted that at present the relations between the RA National Assembly and the European Parliament are mainly limited to meetings in the framework of the Committee on Parliamentary Cooperation and Euronest Parliamentary Assembly. Hence, it was mentioned that the purpose of the workshop is to develop the capacities of the RA NA, raising knowledge on the CoE work style, mechanisms and working methods.

The participants discussed the possibilities of deepening the working relations existing between the European Parliament and the RA NA.
