Georgian Prime Minister’s Visit to the National Assembly

On August 22 the RA NA President Galust Sahakyan received the delegation headed by Irakli Garibashvili, Prime Minister of Georgia, being on an official visit to Armenia . The RA NA Deputy Speaker Eduard Sharmazanov, the NA Secretary General Hrayr Tovmasyan, NA deputies, Ambassadors of the two countries were attending the meeting.

The RA NA President Galust Sahakyan, welcoming the guests in the Parliament, noted that this visit once more proved the willingness of the two countries to strengthen and expand the multilateral cooperation.

The RA NA Speaker highlighted the role and cooperation of the Armenian and Georgian Parliaments in the international structures in the development of the Armenian-Georgian relations.

According to the NA Speaker, the two countries should more actively cooperate, draw up and implement new joint projects. Touching upon the Armenian-Georgian centuries-old friendship, Galsut Sahakyan mentioned that next year marks the centennial anniversary of the Commemoration of the Armenian Genocide, and the lessons of history do not only refer to the Armenian people, but to other people as well. The condemnation and recognition of the Armenian Genocide have an important role for the prevention of crimes against humanity.

Armenia is interested in the establishment of new conditions aimed at continuous peace, stability and regional security in the South Caucasus, according to the RA NA Speaker. Galust Sahakyan stated that Armenia pursues the peaceful settlement of Nagorno Karabakh conflict and spotlights the establishment of atmosphere of confidence in the region.

The Prime Minister of Georgia Irakli Garibashvili, welcoming the RA NA Speaker and those present, noted that the goal of the Georgian delegation was to advance friendly relations with neighbouring countries and promote intensification of economic and cultural ties. He attached importance to the steps aimed at the deepening of cooperation between the Parliaments of Armenia and Georgia.

At the meeting other issues of mutual interest were also discussed.
