On May 25 the delegation led by the RA NA Deputy Speaker Eduard Sharmazanov being in Tokyo on a working visit in Tokyo met with Hiroshi Takahashi, Deputy Director General, Institute for Russia & NIS Economic Studies (ROTOBO). At the meeting the sides discussed trade-economic relations of Armenia and Japan, particularly, the creation of the bilateral trade-economic committees, the activation of the ties between the Armenian and Japanese businessmen, as well as issues concerning the holding of joint business forums.

The next meeting of the parliamentary delegation was with Takao Makino, Parliamentary Vice Minister for Foreign Affairs of Japan. The interlocutors have touched upon the perspectives of deepening of bilateral cooperation in a number of spheres, highlighting the opening of the Embassy of Japan in Yerevan from January of this year, which promotes the more deepening of friendly relations established with joint efforts. At the end of the meeting Eduard Sharmazanov awarded Takao Makino the RA NA Speaker’s memorial Medal for supporting the development of the Armenian-Japanese inter-parliamentary ties.

On the same day the Armenian Delegation had also a meeting with Kae Yanagisawa, Vice President of Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA). The sides discussed issues regarding the procedure of the technical support program being provided to Armenia by the Government of Japan and the perspectives of the implementation of the new programs. The interlocutors expressed satisfaction with the dynamic development of Armenian-Japanese relations during the recent years, highlighting the effective cooperation in the spheres of the prevention of the natural calamities, energy and agriculture at present.

We’ll remind that the delegation comprises the Head of Armenia-Japan Parliamentary Friendship Group Samvel Farmanyan and the member of the Group Alexander Arzumanyan. The Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the RA to Japan Hrant Poghosyan accompanied the parliamentary delegation.
