Meeting in the Parliament

On October 10 Hermine Naghdalyan, the NA Deputy Speaker, the Co-Chair of the Inter-Parliamentary Committee on Cooperation between the RA National Assembly and the Parliament of Georgia received Gubaz Sanikidze, the Deputy Speaker of the Parliament of Georgia, and Tengiz Sharmanashvili, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Georgia to Armenia. The RA NA deputy Volodya Badalyan attended the meeting.

Congratulating Mr Sanikidze on being elected Deputy Speaker of the Parliament of Georgia, Hermine Naghdalyan expressed conviction that in future with his activity he will promote further rapprochement of the friendly relations established between the two countries and the expansion of the inter-parliamentary ties. In response, Mr Sanikidze, thanking for the meeting, also highlighted the cooperation established between the two countries, expressing readiness to promote the strengthening of the inter-parliamentary ties.

Both sides highly assessed the current level of the Armenian-Georgian relations, expressed conviction that in different spheres perspectives of cooperation developmentstill exist, which should be called into life for the sake of the two countries. In this context Hermine Naghdalyan emphasized the RA President Serzh Sargsyan's speech during the visit to Georgia, where Serzh Sargsyan has stated that though our two countries have chosen different ways of integration, nevertheless they should be able to continue the established cooperation and become a bridge between the two integration models.

In the context of the development of the inter-parliamentary ties, the activation of cooperation between the relevant Committees and the necessity of the implementation of the joint programmes was emphasized, which will give an opportunity to understand the format of the issues of bilateral importance. Ambassador Sharmanashvili in his turn has noted that a tradition of effective cooperation between the parliamentary committees is already established, and he has conveyed the Armenian side’s proposal of further activation of partnership to the Georgian MPs.

Touching upon the regional challenges, Gubaz Sanikidze especially highlighted the close cooperation of the parties over the problems relating to the security both at legislative and executive structures. Sharing Mr Sanikidze’s concern, Hermine Naghdalyan referred to the democratic crisis, and the cases of human rights violation in Azerbaijan within the framework of regional problems.

During the meeting the parties also talked about other issues of bilateral interest.
