On March 25, in the Armenian Representation of the CIS Inter-Parliamentary Assembly, in Tavrichesky Palace of Saint Petersburg the RA NA Deputy Speaker Eduard Sharmazanov met with the representatives of the Armenian community of Saint Petersburg.

The RA NA Permanent Representative to the IPA CIS, the IPA CIS Deputy General Secretary Hayk Chilingaryan was awarded the RA NA Medal of Honour: the NA Deputy Speaker Eduard Sharmazanov handed over the award. 18 representatives of the Armenian community were also awarded the RA NA Diploma and the RA NA Speaker’s Letter of Acknowledgment.

In the course of the meeting Eduard Sharmazanov delivered a speech and answered the questions of the Armenian community representatives. The NA Deputy Speaker highlighted the role of Saint Petersburg Armenians in strengthening Armenia-Diaspora-Artsakh triple unity, in the preservation of the Armenian identity, Armenian culture and its spreading. He particularly noted:

“Dear sisters and brothers, this year we mark the 25^th anniversary of the establishment of the diplomatic relations between Armenia and Russia. The contribution of the Armenians living in Russia, including Saint Petersburg, to the allied relations of the two countries is important. We are thankful to everybody for being next to the Motherland and living with the problems of the Motherland. The role of our compatriots living abroad is also important in the solution of the challenges facing Armenia and Artsakh. Only in case of united, cohesive and purposeful activities we can have Armenia of our dreams.

The triple Armenia-Diaspora-Artsakh should be the warrant of our successes. Today, our Motherland stands before important challenges and choice, and I am convinced that providing only security, we can register progress. I am convinced that in providing security and progress you will have an essential role. I am thankful for your devotion.”

At the end of the meeting the NA Deputy Speaker Eduard Sharmazanov congratulated all those awarded.
