Chair of RA NA Standing Committee on Foreign Relations Receives Member of FRG Bundestag Jürgen Klimke

On March 30, the Chair of the Standing Committee on Foreign Relations of the RA National Assembly Artak Zakaryan received the member of the Bundestag of the Federal Republic of Germany Jürgen Klimke. The Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the FRG to Armenia Bernhard Matthias Kiesler attended the meeting.

Jürgen Klimke has informed that he is in Armenia as Deputy Chairman of the OSCE Observation Mission Delegation to observe the parliamentary elections and the pre-election period designed in the RA on April 2. He has also informed that as an observer he is in Armenia for the third time.

Welcoming the guests, Artak Zakaryan has highlighted Jürgen Klimke’s visit to Armenia and noted that it is a good occasion to discuss the issues of bilateral interest, to get acquainted with the regional problems and the works of preparatory and conduct of the upcoming elections to the RA on the spot.

Artak Zakaryan has noted that the Armenian-German inter-parliamentary relations are active both between the parliamentary friendship groups and at the level of committees. Besides, Armenia actively cooperates with different German organizations.

Touching upon the upcoming elections, Artak Zakaryan emphasized the holding of democratic, free and transparent elections, as well as the transition to the new model of parliamentary government through the reformed electoral system. Artak Zakaryan also has stated that all necessary preconditions are created for conducting legal and fair elections.

The member Jürgen Klimke wished successes in the upcoming elections and expressed hope that the Armenian-German parliamentary friendship group also in the parliament to be newly formed and the committees will actively work and promote the deepening of mutually beneficial cooperation in different spheres.

The Chair of the NA Standing Committee on Foreign Relations of the Artak Zakaryan also touched upon the position of Germany in the Armenian Genocide recognition and expressed gratitude to the German people for the resolution adopted on the Armenian Genocide recognition by the Bundestag on the previous year, noting that the Armenian people highly assess the adoption of the such important and historical resolution.

Artak Zakaryan also highlighted the Armenian-German cooperation in the OSCE, in NATO, in the European Parliament and on different international platforms. Both sides highlighted the continuity of Armenia’s cooperation with the European Union. In this context Artak Zakaryan expressed hope that in future it will be possible to sign the RA-EU pre-signed agreement on Comprehensive and Expanded Partnership.

At the meeting issues regarding the process of the NK conflict settlement were also discussed: Artak Zakaryan reaffirmed Armenia’s position on the peaceful settlement of the conflict within the OSCE Minsk Group, in this issue emphasized the distinct and addressed attitude.
