Chairs of NA Standing Committees Elected

On May 20, the work of the first session of the RA NA sixth convocation continued. The deputies continued the process of the election of the NA Standing Committees’ Chairs.

The Candidates for the NA Standing Committees’ Chairs delivered speeches.

The candidate for the Chair of the Standing Committee on Defense and Security Koryun Nahapetyan delivered a speech. He thanked his co-partisans for assessing his work and again nominating him in such a responsible post. The candidate touched upon the activities of the Committee led by him in the previous parliament, indicated the priorities, which considered necessary to implement in case of being elected. He has noted that the parliamentary oversight will continue in the spheres of defense and security, police, emergency situations, the implementation of the events aimed at the security of the RA and Artsakh will be of priority.

The candidate for the NA Standing Committee on State and Legal Affairs and Protection of Human Rights Hrayr Tovmasyan presented his vision and the works to be done, noting that he was well aware of the problems. He underlined that in case of being elected he will listen to the opinions of all members of the Committee, the specialists of the sphere will be involved in the legislative work, the holding of the parliamentary hearings and the implementation of the parliamentary oversight will be given a significant place.

The candidate for the NA Standing Committee on Territorial Administration, Local Self-Government, Agriculture and Environment Vardevan Grigoryan also delivered a speech and touched upon the important issues and problems, which require prior solution. The candidate introduced his vision on regulating them, the priorities and the Committee’s work style.

The candidate for the NA Standing Committee on Economic Affairs Khosrov Harutyunyan referred to the policy of the economic development, considered necessary the development of the small and medium enterprises, the creation of favourable conditions for the increase of the citizens’ incomes through the involvement of the investments and creating jobs. He highlighted the effective use of the EEC possibilities and the economic relation with the EU. The candidate presented the works to be done and assured he will do his best in case of being elected for having his contribution in providing stable economic development for the upcoming years in this responsible phase.

The candidate for the NA Standing Committee on Financial-Credit and Budgetary Affairs Gagik Minasyan touched upon the implementation of the parliamentary oversight function. Mr Minasyan presented the activities of the Committee led by him during the last years, the legislative work aimed at the rise of the efficiency of the public finance management, particularly the creation of the Budget Office as a result of the amendments to the law on the NA Rules of Procedure and the adoption of the law on Audit Chamber. The candidate emphasized the international experience of the sphere, as well as the study of the best experience of the relationship between the parliament and the higher audit body.

The NA Deputy Speaker on the candidates for the Chairs

The RA NA Deputy Speaker Eduard Sharmazanov talked about the candidates’ human and professional qualities, calling on his colleagues to vote for them. The NA Deputy Speaker expressed conviction that the NA Standing Committees will register serious successes led by the candidates.

The viewpoints of the Way Out and RPA Factions

The Head of the Way Out Faction Nikol Pashinyan touched upon the parliamentary majority and minority relationships.

The Head of the RPA Faction Vahram Baghdasaryan noted that the main disputes will be held in the Committees and political assessments will be voiced in the session hall. Mr Baghdasaryan expressed conviction that in the legislative process the Committees will actively cooperate with the factions and all political forces.

NA 9 Standing Committees’ Chairs Elected

Afterwards the elections of the NA Standing Committees’ Chairs were held. The Chair of the NA Accounting Committee Gagik Melikyan informed that as a result of secret ballot all candidates nominated in the posts of the NA Standing Committees’ Chairs were elected.

On behalf of the parliament the RA NA Speaker Ara Babloyan congratulated the newly elected Chairs of the Committees and wished them effective and fruitful work.

Afterwards Mr Babloyan informed that the National Assembly will refer to the item of approving the government programme after presenting the newly formed government activities, and about that it will be additionally announced.

The National Assembly ended the work of the sitting of the first session of the sixth convocation.
