Issues on Protection of Children’s Rights Discussed with Participation of Children at RA NA Special Sitting

On November 20, a special sitting dedicated to the Universal Children’s Day was held in the RA National Assembly.

The RA NA deputies, members of the RA government and representatives of international organizations took part in the special sitting.

The Chair of the RA NA Standing Committee on Health Care and Social Affairs Hakob Hakobyan, the Chair of the RA NA Standing Committee on Science, Education, Culture, Youth and Sport Vardan Bostanjyan, the Deputy Chair of the RA NA Standing Committee on State and Legal Affairs and Protection of Human Rights Rustam Makhmudyan delivered speeches and congratulated the children on Universal Children’s Day and wished them careless and bright future.

Addressing the children at the special sitting Hakob Hakobyan has assured that everything is done in our country for shaping a new generation with the best and competitive knowledge and decent upbringing.

Vardan Bostanjyan highlighted the possibility of free thinking and acting, which is conditioned by the fact of living in independent and free country. According to him, the children are the pioneers of progress, and wide opportunities are opened to get related to European progressive values. In this context the Committee Chair touched upon the RA-EU Comprehensive and Enhanced Partnership Agreement to be signed on November 24, which will increase the possibility of being communicated with those values.

In his speech Rustam Makhmudyan talked about the international documents on protection of children’s rights, noting that Armenia also joined the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child in 1992, and then in 1996 the RA National Assembly passed the RA law on Rights of the Child.

The 9th grade pupil of Gyumri Foton College Mane Mheryan gave a speech on the theme Every Child in the Family.

The 9th grade pupil of Yerevan Raffi Senior School Samvel Khachikyan delivered a speech on the theme Opportunity for Early Childhood Development for Every Child.

The 10th grade pupil of Aregnazan Educational Complex Ani Asatryan touched upon the issues of continuing the education after finishing the schools with inclusive education.

The 11th grade pupil of Yerevan Quantum College Elen Asatryan in her speech on the theme Decent Nutrition for Every Child touched upon the issue of providing the children with healthy food.

“Dear children, dear colleagues, the special meeting held in the National Assembly dedicated to the children’s rights ended. Today’s full, and at the same time, truly useful and instructive event over the idea of the protection of the rights of a child was a serious dialogue bringing together us, and I hope that its practical consequences will be reflected in our actions, too. I especially would like to draw the deputies’ attention to these issues.
