Sergey Israyelyan was born on February 11, 1937 in Ijevan.
Mr. Israyelyan graduated from the Moscow All-Union State Film Institute in 1965. He was a cameraman and producer, professor, Laureate of Armenia SSR State Award, distinguished figure in the arts, and an Armenia SSR national art expert. He was awarded a Movses Khorenatsi Medal in 1998.
From 1955-1999 he worked as an assistant to cameraman, stage cameraman, and stage manager at the Hayfilm Film Studio. In 1987 he was elected president of the Armenia Cinematographic Union. In 1988 he was appointed to a professorship at the Khachatour Abovyan Armenia State Pedagogic Institute.
1999-2003 was his first term as a deputy of the NA (proportional list of the Unity Alliance) and he served on the NA Standing Committee on Science, Education, Culture and Youth Affairs and was first a member of the Unity Faction and then the People's Voice Deputy Group.
On May 25, 2003 he was reelected to the NA from the proportional list of the Justice Alliance and he served on the NA Standing Committee on Science, Education, Culture and Youth Affairs. He was a member of the Justice Faction and he had no political party affiliation.
Mr. Israyelyan has died on October 16, 2003.
