Yerem Karapetyan was born on May 1, 1933 in the village of Shahumyan in the Ararat region.

Mr. Karapetyan graduated from Yerevan Dental College in 1953 with a specializa­tion as a dentist.

From 1954-1956 he served in the Soviet Army. From 1956-1996 he worked as a dentist. From 1996-1999 he was head of the Shahoumyan community.

1999-2003 was his first term as a deputy in the NA (electoral district # 32) and he was on the NA Standing Committee on Financial-Credit, Budgetary and Economic Affairs. He was first a member of the Stability Deputy Group and later the Armenia Deputy Group.

On May 25, 2003 he was reelected to the NA (from electoral district # 23) and he was on the NA Standing Committee on Financial-Credit, Budgetary and Economic Affairs. He was a member of the “People's Deputy” Deputy Group and a mem­ber of the Republican Party of Armenia.

Mr. Karapetyan was married and had  three children.

He has died on December 15, 2006.
